What being a Community Interest Company means for Innate Change

We’re proud Innate Change is a Community Interest Company (CIC). But what does that actually mean?

In simple terms, our goal isn’t to make money for shareholders, we’re here to make a real difference. At Innate Change, everything we do is about creating practical, visible change that helps neurodivergent people contribute and thrive in education, work and community life.

From the very inception of Innate Change it has been about the mission, money is important and managing it well matters, but we didn’t want profit to be the biggest determining factor in what we do.

What is a CIC?

A CIC is a limited company like any other in the way that it is set up, and how it reports to Companies House and HMRC. A fundamental difference is that a CIC does not distribute profit as dividends for stakeholders, instead we use the profit to support the community with services and sponsored support where finances can play a limiting factor. It’s a corporate entity with a social heart.

For us, it helps us in multiple ways. One of which is communicating a very clear commitment to the community we support. It also means that every time we deliver coaching, training or facilitation in workplaces, we’re not only helping organisations build truly inclusive cultures, but we are supporting communities through the power of organisational good.

It also makes it possible to offer direct support to families and individuals who need it most, using coaching, webinars, helpful resources and safe spaces where people can truly connect.

What this means for your organisation

When you choose as an organisational leader to partner with Innate Change, you’re doing two things at once:

  1. Driving inclusion and equity inside your workplace.
  2. Extending that impact into the wider community by enabling support for families and individuals who may otherwise feel left behind.

This kind of change begins inside workplaces, empowering employees and shaping more inclusive environments. From there, the positive effects extend outward, influencing families, schools and broader communities by fostering greater understanding, connection and support.

We call it our ‘Pay-It-Forward’ mechanism.

Why it matters

We chose to be a CIC because it keeps us accountable to the people we serve. It means that everything we do, from each programme to every session and conversation, stays true to our mission:

To drive practical, visible systemic change rooted in curiosity, kindness, respect and equity.

When you work with us, you’re not just investing in your workplace, you’re helping to provide support where it’s most needed, in our community, in your community and in the homes of those that work for you today and those that will work with you tomorrow.
